If you’re suffering from various vaginal discomforts and are considering laser treatments with MonaLisa Touch Chico, this blog is for you. The North American Menopause Society recently published an article explaining results of a clinical trial where topical estrogen therapy was compared to laser therapy (the study used the Monalisa Touch laser). Specifically the study wanted to determine which was a more effective treatment for ladies in menopause; the laser therapy, the topical estrogen therapy, or a combination of both.
The study was randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled (some ladies were given placebo topical cream whereas other ladies had an ineffective laser used). Samples of vaginal mucous were analyzed throughout the study and ladies were asked about symptoms like vaginal dryness and vaginal itching/burning, among other common discomforts through medical questionnaire. The good news is that at the end of the study all groups had improvement in vaginal discomforts. The really good news is that patients who were given the real laser treatment had improvements that lasted an observed twenty weeks (the study ended after this time period, otherwise they may have seen even longer lasting results!).
The study states that although more testing is needed to observe results on a longer time frame, it is fair to conclude that CO2 laser therapy for the treatment of various vaginal discomforts is more effective than just topical estrogen therapy alone and would be a good choice for ladies who experiencing vulvovaginal discomforts.
