If you have Interstitial Cystitis, you are probably aware that acidic foods and beverages can be some of the worst triggers. One cup of coffee or a glass of orange juice could ruin your day with bathroom with frequency, urgency, bladder pressure, bladder pain, or spasms. And when things are going well, you definitely don’t want to ruin a good streak and risk a relapse in symptoms. It can be really challenging for ladies to give up acidic foods, especially coffee.
In a previous blog topic we talked about two different coffees that are more suited for ladies with IC– they are made by Trader Joe’s and sold at the stores. Although these coffees are not made specifically for our patients, we have to get excited about their availability because this could mean a huge difference in the lives of our patients.
The latest lower-acid option from Trader Joe’s is their Organic Sumatra. It is not only organic, but fair-trade, and grown on small family farms in Indonesia. And although there might still be too much acid for some, you might be able to have nice coffee without the unpleasant side effects.
